The lettering says: Miss Molly Blandy who with her own and her sweetheart’s contrivance did barbarously and inhumanly poison her own father for his estate. Taken from life in Oxford Castle. With horror heav’n and earth behold / The parricide in murder bold … Warned by her fate ye children be, / And dread her sad catastrophe. Standing, wearing leg-iron. Mary Blandy killed her father with small doses of arsenic. She was convicted with the aid of evidence from his physician, Anthony Addington, and was hanged at Oxford on 6 April 1752. In this picture she is wearing a leg-iron.
